  1. very good novel, very well written. When I saw that the novel was going to follow Napoleon's brother, I thought the novel would be more on the war/political side. But the author preferred to go on the side of economic, technological and political war, in my opinion he could have gone slower on the technological tree to open more space for conflict and give more room for the novel to evolve. Overall it was the path he chose, I would give it an 8.8/10

  2. If you're a fan of historical settings, especially alternate history timelines or more realistic settings with few fantasy elements, READ THIS. Damn, this is one of the few c-novels I read that's set in a foreign country that actually feels like it's set there! At the very least, the writer has to be familiar with either Hugo or Dumas' works (or several of them). The historical names are accurate, as are the locations, and the characters feel convincingly real than just a simple paper cutout.

  3. Also has such great lines such as: "Stupid son of Helios, my stupid brother!" Joseph said, "You want to fly your father's sun cart with blazing flames into the sky, but have you ever considered having such power? Poor worm, the son of impermanence and worry, you forgot the phrase "Know yourself" by Delphi"

  5. I put your comment through Google Translate and it came through very legibly. Thanks for the clear review! Putting this on my reading list. And yeah, I agree with you that nationalism for the country you live in isn't weird at all in the 18th and 19th century. This is especially true for a highly effective centralised state like France.
