  1. I only read the first 10 chapters. I stopped because I couldn't bring myself to like Kang Xi. Ji Youze is a very lovable character with the combination of aggressive on the outside but caring and sincere on the inside. She has solid opinions based on what she sees and experiences and doesn't bow down to wrongs just because of status or power. The contrast of her strength and kindness is very moving. On the other hand, I couldn't get into Kang Xi because of how she is portrayed in the small bits with her perspective. According to Ji Youze's account, Kang Xi broke up with her so that she would be allowed to enter the entertainment circle because their relationship, as well as Kang Xi's originally rebellious nature, is a stain on her reputation, which would also affect the entire family. Kang Xi made her choice and told Ji Youze that she "never wants to see her again" and went on to focus on her career. I assume a few years later, Kang Xi and Ji Youze have a chance to work together in a film or tv drama but Ji Youze declines upon knowing that Kang Xi would be there, which is understandable bc this woman said she never wanted to see her again and she has been deeply hurt by her so it's no surprise that she would choose to stay away and would always decline anything to do with Kang Xi. But from Kang Xi's pov, she kinda acted like Ji Youze not wanting to work with her as if she was the aggrieved party, saw it as a chance to reconnect but was rejected, as if it wasn't the consequences of her choices. Sure, she silently did things to protect Ji Youze, but it doesn't make up for what she did. She hurt this woman and never apologized or even seemed to regret throwing her away for her dream. Her dedication to her dream and the fact that she would heartlessly throw away love for her career makes her an interesting character, but I couldn't reconcile with the fact that after she had reached the peak of her career, she turns around and almost toys with Ji Youze's sincere longing for her. Going past the fact that she pretended her foreign childhood friend was her girlfriend, causing Youze to misunderstand and feel jealous, when she saw that Youze still lovingly kept a notebook with the picture of the two of them, she didn't think to apologize. She decided to mess with Youze to check all the ways this woman still cared about her despite trying so hard to avoid her. When she found out that Youze still carried around stomach medicine, the same kind she used to carry around for Kang Xi, her reaction wasn't to be touched or moved, it was amusement. It felt like she was arrogantly saying "look at this little girl who can't help but love me even after I throw her away." Idk if that's really how she thought but it was the impression I got from that scene from her pov. It really hurt knowing Ji Youze chose to stay away because she knows her longing and pain are directly linked to Kang Xi but no matter where she goes, Kang Xi's image is there as if taunting her, and that even Kang Xi herself keeps acting like she didn't do anything wrong while continuing to approach her. All this angst from just 10 chapters is really painful and I couldn't bear it so I stopped here. Idk what happens past this point, but to whoever wants to read this novel, good luck!
